Get the Kids Cooking

School holidays are the perfect time to get the kids in the kitchen. Often, we bake with our kids but why not get them involved in preparing meals? Start young with age-appropriate tasks and soon you’ll be enjoying them cooking a meal for you! You’re also teaching them valuable life skills. And it’s amazing what they’ll eat when they have been involved in preparing it.

Their involvement can start way beyond the kitchen. Get them involved in planning the meal, shopping, then chopping and cooking.

Here’s a few ideas to get you started:

  • Crumb their own schnitzel or pieces of chicken or fish
  • Make their own salad
  • Chop and dice fruit and vegetables to make their own kebabs
  • Make their own satays with chicken tenderloins
  • Create a pizza using a pita-bread base
  • Roll meat balls
  • Make burger patties for their own hamburger
  • Cook a sausage on the BBQ
  • Make their own nachos
  • Build their own wraps with steak or chicken and salad
  • Toasted sandwiches
